The Fire Max 11 starts at $229.99 for the 64GB model and $329.98 in a bundle with the keyboard and stylus. Pre-orders for the Fire Max 11 start today with shipping on June 14. It’s hard to look at the Fire Max 11 and not see value, value, value. To drive home how the keyboard and stylus can be used for productivity, Keith told me Amazon is offering a three-month trial of Microsoft 365 Personal, which includes Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and 1TB of cloud storage. Over Zoom, Keith showed me how the Fire Max 11 could open two apps at once and the “Fire Max 11’s MFA stylus pen” could be used to write directly into text fields with on-device handwriting recognition. $329 for the Fire Max 11 with a keyboard and a stylus is a hell of a deal. The keyboard also has 15 pre-programmed shortcut buttons (above the number row) and two user-programmable ones the trackpad supports gestures. The whole thing looks a lot like Apple’s Magic Keyboard Folio for the 10th-gen iPad. The keyboard is a two-piece accessory that attaches to the Fire Max 11 via a set of pogo pins and magnets on the backside one half is the keyboard and trackpad combo and the other is a kickstand that opens at different angles. What sets the Fire Max 11 apart from the Fire HD 10 Plus is the optional keyboard and stylus that you can connect to it. Still, the Fire Max 11 has Show Mode, which basically turns the tablet into an Echo Show smart display with a hands-free Alexa mode. If you’ve used a Fire Tablet of any kind, you already know what to expect: It’s a storefront for Amazon’s entertainment content (Kindle ebooks, Prime movies and TV shows, Prime Music, etc.) and the Appstore still lacks much of what you’d find in the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store. The Fire Max 11 runs FireOS 8 which is a fork of Android 11. Battery life is up to 14 hours on a single charge and there’s support for Wi-Fi 6. You don’t get a fancy OLED or mini-LED with deep blacks like you do on high-end iPads, but the 2,000 x 1,200 resolution on the 11-inch display should be plenty sharp. According to Amazon, the Fire Max 11’s “alumino-silicate glass” is “3x as durable as the iPad 10.9” (10th generation).” I’m not going to be the guy on YouTube doing drop tests, but that sounds good to me. The 7.5mm aluminum body is a first for any Fire Tablet and the whole thing weighs just over a pound (420 grams). Keith tells me the Fire Max 11 is “50 percent faster” than the Fire HD 10 Plus thanks to its more powerful 2.2GHz MediaTek chipset. Just because the Fire Max 11 is inexpensive doesn’t mean it’s slow. Both are well under the 10th-gen 10.9-inch iPad, which starts at $449 and doesn’t come with any accessories. Amazon’s also selling a bundle with a keyboard/trackpad accessory and a stylus for $329.98. Starting at $229.99, the Fire Max 11 is priced very aggressively compared to an iPad or even the OnePlus Pad. Kevin Keith, vice president of Amazon Devices, tells me over Zoom that a shift to larger tablet displays is why the company is going bigger. Say hello to the aluminum Fire Max 11!Īs suggested by its name, the Fire Max 11 is Amazon’s largest tablet yet with an 11-inch display. Twelve years after Jeff Bezos unveiled the original Fire Tablet, Amazon is finally making a non-plastic version of its affordable tablets. You don't so much close a folder on the command line, as you leave it. To open-or enter-a folder on the command line, use the cd (change directory) command as follows: $ pwdĬlose the desktop window you're in, or press the Back button in your file manager to leave the folder. The cd (change directory) command opens a folder and makes it your new current working directory. If you're used to the dir command from Windows, you can use that on Linux as well. Plain text files are listed without additional notation. Binary entities, like ZIP files and executable programs, are indicated with an asterisk ( *). Colors don't always transmit over remote connections to distant servers, though, so a common and generic method to make it clear what are files and what are folders is the -classify ( -F) switch: $ ls -classifyįolders are given a trailing slash ( /) to denote that they are directories. If you don't see those colors, you can use ls -color to try and activate that feature. Some Linux distributions have colors pre-programmed so that folders are blue, files are white, binary files are green, and so on. You may also notice that it's hard to tell a file from a folder. Once you start moving around within your computer, you can use that information for reference. That is, you're in a folder inside of another folder. The double dot is an indicator that you can move back from this location. The single dot is a meta-location, meaning the folder you are currently in. From there, the ls (list) command shows you what's in that (or any other) directory: $ pwd The pwd (print working directory) command tells you what directory you're currently in. The ls (list) command lists all files in the current directory. To list the files on your computer or device, you generally open a file manager application, whether it's called Explorer (Windows), Finder (Mac), Nautilus (GNOME), Amaze (Android), or anything else. So instead of starting your journey with the shell by learning terminal commands, begin with everyday tasks that you're already familiar with. There are direct analogs for everything you do in a GUI to most of the everyday activities you do in a terminal. While the terminal may seem mysterious and intimidating at first, it's easy to learn once you realize that a terminal uses the same information as all of your usual applications. That is, this article demonstrates how to use a terminal to move around and browse your computer as you would on a desktop, but from a terminal instead. This article compares navigating a computer desktop without the desktop. As with any new tool, you have to learn the shell before you can do anything useful with it. Because of this direct communication without the intervention of additional applications, using a terminal also makes it easy to script repetitive tasks, and design workflows unique to your own needs. You may be surprised to learn, then, that there's a more direct way to use a computer: a terminal, or shell, which provides a direct interface between you and the operating system. These modules use a crystal with a frequency of 32768Hz (215) and an internal binary counter to create a frequency of exactly 1Hz and count seconds. Step 1: What Is a Real Time Clock A Real-Time Clock, or RTC for short, is an integrated circuit that keeps track of time. In the circuit there are two push buttons for setting time and date of the real time clock. A Real-Time Clock, or RTC for short, is an integrated circuit that keeps track of time. The DS3231 RTC address is 0圆8 (the same address with the DS1307) and the SSD1306 OLED address is 0x3D. Even they share the same bus but at any time the microcontroller ‘speaks’ with 1 device only depending on the address sent. That means the DS3231 and the SSD1306 OLED screen share the same I2C bus. It also uses I2C interface to communicate with the master device which is in this case the Arduino. It also (the DS3231) keeps the time running if the main power source is down. The DS3231 is more accurate than the DS1307 due to its built-in temperature sensor. In the last post I built an Arduino based real time clock using DS1307 RTC and SSD1306 OLED and in this project I’m going to show how to build a real time clock with temperature monitor using Arduino, DS3231 RTC chip and SSD1306 OLED (128×64 pixel). Overview The datasheet for the DS3231 explains that this part is an 'Extremely Accurate I☬-Integrated RTC/TCXO/Crystal'. What fraction is represented by the intersection of the two shaded areas? 6/12. Next, divide the unit square horizontally into fourths. To demonstrate this with an area model, begin by dividing the unit square vertically into thirds. Let's take a look at a multiplication problem: 2/3 x 3/4. Example: These shapes all have the same area of 9: It helps to imagine how much paint would cover the shape. What is the new fraction represented by the shaded area? 8/12. Each worksheet has a model that shows students how to do the area model with and without remainders. Next, divide the area of the unit square into four horizontal rectangles (to demonstrate that you're multiplying both the numerator and denominator by 4). 860 + results Sort by: Relevance View: List Division Worksheets using Area Model Created by Whites Workshop Learning the area model is an important step in mastering division. Shade in 2/3 of the area of the unit square. If we were to demonstrate 2/3 = 8/12 fact using an area model, first divide the area of the unit square into three rectangles. If your students are ready to be challenged with the symbolic form, you can explain: After various opportunities to experiment informally with fraction sticks and write down their observations, they will be ready to learn a more formal rule: when you multiply the numerator and denominator by the same non-zero number, you will obtain an equivalent fraction. They can choose a fraction, such as 2/3, and see what combinations of other fractions are equivalent, such as 8/12. This is a great time for students to experiment informally with fraction sticks. So, let’s talk about finding equivalent fractions! The area model for multiplication is a model where the factors are the side lengths of the rectangle, and the product is the area. Step Three: Make a Single Formula For Cost. You can use an area model to solve division problems by representing the number being divided as the area of a rectangle and the known factor as one of the side. Total cardboard needed: Area of Cardboard 4wh + 4w 2. Area of Double Tops and Bases 4 × w × w 4w 2. Areas: Area of the 4 Sides 4 × w × h 4wh. And we are told that the volume should be 0.02m 3: w 2 h 0.02. Understanding equivalent fractions is important when comparing and ordering fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, and reducing fractions to their lowest term. Ignoring thickness for this model: Volume w × w × h w 2 h. Here are some math concepts you can model with fraction sticks and area models:Ī prevalent theme in the Grade 4 Common Core standards is understanding equivalent fractions, or, more precisely, the notion that a fraction remains the same when you multiply the numerator and denominator by a non-zero whole number. According to Adding It Up: Helping Children Learn Mathematics 1, the area model summarizes the steps in multi. An area model is a square that you divide into equal-sized rectangles to represent a fraction. Area models help us see the structure of math. You then commit, restore the remaining changes with git stash pop, and repeat. git stash save -keep-index preserves your staged changes and reverts the rest, so that you can test this intermediate state. If you use git add -p to split your current worktree changes into multiple commits ( Adding Partial Changes), you may want to test those commits first. The -keep-index option is useful for testing partially staged changes before you commit them. Otherwise, Git generates a default message like: WIP on master: 72e25df0 'commit subject' You can also give a comment as an argument, to be saved as the message on the commit representing the stash (e.g., git stash save "bugfix in progress"). This is useful to save compilation artifacts such as object files, normally ignored and untracked but that would be costly to recreate. Save untracked files (normally only tracked files are saved). This works the same way as the patch mode of git add.ĭo not revert changes already applied to the index. Interactively select hunks to save, rather than the complete diff between HEAD and the working tree. On the other hand, after you switch branches, you may want to remove all object files to ensure a correct new build, as the dependencies in a complex project as expressed by tools like make or ant may not handle such wholesale rearranging of files correctly. For example, often ignored files include compiled objects that are expensive to rebuild, so you donât want to remove them while cleaning up other untracked cruft that has accumulated in your working tree. There is no single git clean command that is most common, really it depends on what youâre trying to do. Skip the normal âignoreâ rules (but still obey rules given with -e). Directories that are in turn other Git repositories will not be removed unless you add -f -f (two âforceâ flags). Remove untracked directories as well as files. Report only errors, not the files removed.Īdd pattern to the âignoreâ rules in effect. Show what would be done, but remove no files. git clean will make no changes without this flag, unless you set clean.requireForce to false. It then prompts you to use the options - to continue after resolving the conflicts, skip the current commit, or abort the whole cherry pick, similar to git rebase. Take the commit list from standard input.Īs with other commands that apply patches, git cherry-pick can fail if a patch does not apply cleanly, and it uses the merge machinery in that case, recording conflicts in the index and working files in the usual way. You can use this to take the commitâs changes as a starting point for further work, or to squash the effect of several cherry picked commits into a single one. This is required to cherry pick merge commits at all, since otherwise it is not clear what set of changes should be replicated.Īpply the patch to the working tree and index, but do not commit. Only use this if that commit is publicly available if youâre cherry picking from a private branch, then this information is not useful to others.įor merge commits, compute the changeset for the new commit relative to the n th parent of the original. Some options:Įdit the commit message before committing.Īppend to the commit message a line indicating the original commit. The argument to git cherry-pick is a set of commits to apply, using the syntax described in Chapter 8. If there is an upstream feature you need that the distribution does not provide (and they use Git), you canât just merge it in, as your repository is not a clone of theirsâbut you may be able to apply the relevant commits individually by cherry-picking. Or, suppose you have your own repository for holding local changes made to your Unix distributionâs derivative of some open source project, such as Apache or OpenLDAP as modified and repackaged by Red Hat or Debian. For example, you might discover that a bug fix applied to a certain version actually needs to be applied to an earlier one as well, and merging in that direction is not desirable. Any arrangement of branches and merge discipline favors a certain flow of changes, and sometimes you need to buck that flow. As a very general rule, itâs best to avoid this in favor of factoring your work so that a commit appears in one place and is incorporated in multiple branches via merging instead, but that isnât always possible or practical. Git cherry-pick allows you to apply the changeset of a given commit as a new commit on the current branch, preserving the original author information and commit message. |
